DONALD METHOT Obituary

June 11, 1957 ~ August 18, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Methot on August 18, 2023, at TBRHSC, with his wife and daughter by his side, at the age of 66 after a short but fierce battle with cancer.

Donny was born to Ernest and Laura Methot (Freeman) on June 11, 1957, in Port Arthur Ontario and grew up on Twincity Crossroad. In his youth he had a passion for hockey and enjoyed racing his ponies at the Murillo Fair. At 18 years old he met the love of his life, Joanne, and they were married on November 24, 1979, welcoming their daughter, his princess, a few years later. At the age of 28 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, although it changed the way he did things he never let it hold him back. He lived each day with perseverance and a positive attitude. Donny worked hard to make sure his family wanted for nothing, with a fulfilling career as a crane and equipment operator until his early retirement in 1999. He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 for 45 years.

Donny's favourite title was Grandpa. He was blessed with three grandsons who were his pride and joy. He loved their visits, hearing about all their adventures and accomplishments, and was always willing to watch their favourite movies with them. Spoiling and second desserts were never in short supply when Grandpa was around.

Donny is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Joanne, daughter Marcey Curtola (Nathan), grandchildren Brady, Logan and Tyler, brother Chris (Cherisa Rydholm), sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Laura and Ernest, and brothers Ernest and David.

We would like to thank the many nurses and doctors that provided wonderful care throughout his battle, in particular Dr. Kotb, Dr. Del Paggio, Dr. Nick, Dr. Sellick, the nurses of 1A oncology and the ICU team for the amazing care and compassion during his last few weeks. A special thank you to nurses Kayla and Debbie for the extra care and support on his last day.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

For those able, please consider donating to Canadian Blood Services.
