It is with sadness that we must announce the peaceful passing of our father Donald Edwin (Dewey) Wedow at St Joseph's Care Group Hospice Unit on August 31, 2007 with family at his side. Don, ("Dewey" to his friends) was born in Virden, Manitoba on January 28th 1933 to Carl and Winifred Wedow (nee Meisner) where he spent his early years on the family farm. When it was time to leave the farm and set out on his own he gained employment with the California Standard Oil Company and worked on the Oil Rigs. Through this time he married the love of his life Lorraine (nee McRae) and had three sons: Jimmy, Steven and David. Following this, Don ran his own small business and the family spent time in Thompson MB, Winnipeg MB and in the early 70's wound up in Thunder Bay with wife and kids in tow. Don then became employed with various companies, worked part time as a barman in the round room at the Lotus Inn and eventually became a regional salesman with Superior Custom Trailers and travelled Northwestern Ontario for over 20 years. Don's passion was his love for the game of golf, which, he pursued to the very end with his best friend Don Post. Predeceased by his wife Lorraine in August 2005, his parents and his older brother Lloyd. Don is survived by his three sons Donald James (Jimmy), Steven Dwight, and David Charles, three sisters: Joy (Glen) Smith, Donna Wright and Micki (Stan) Blackstock along with numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the following people for their care, compassion and concern during Dad's final weeks. To the doctors and staff at the Thunder Bay Cancer Treatment Centre, the nursing and social support staff on floor 2B at the TBRHSC, the nursing and spiritual support staff on 4 North Hospice at St. Joseph's Care Group and Rosemary for being with us at his bedside on his final transition.
