Mrs. Doreen Edith Clark age 78 years, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at T.B.R.H.S.C with daughter Debra and husband John by her side. Doreen was born in Elma, Manitoba and her family moved to Thunder Bay where she attended Prospect Avenue School and Port Arthur Collegiate Institute. Following her graduation from P.A.C.I. she enrolled as a student with the Department of Radiology, St. Joseph's Hospital in which she was successful, and upon graduation was presented with her certificate registering her as a C.S.R.T. Following her graduation and prior to her marriage she worked several years in the X-Ray Department of St. Joseph's General Hospital, Port Arthur General Hospital and finally that of Toronto Western Hospital. During the 57 years of marriage to her husband John they managed to build a summer home at Middle Shebandowan and a beautiful home at Kakabeka Falls where she developed a passion for gardening. During their 25 years at the Falls she was an active participant in the Hymers Fall Fair and her exhibits won her many ribbons. In 1997 due to health reasons Doreen and John moved into Thunder Bay to their present residence at 33 Summit Avenue and Doreen continued to maintain her interests in flower gardening. During the winter seasons Doreen's interest turned to crafts, quilting, knitting and crocheting and as an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of the General Hospital, subsequently the T.B.R.H.S.C. enjoyed using her talents to further the work of raising funds for the auxiliary and was recognized with the presentation of a certificate recognizing her length of service as a member of the auxiliary. Doreen will be missed and lovingly remembered by John her husband of 57 years, daughter Debra, son Victor, granddaughter Tara, grandsons Benjamin and Bradley and great-grandson "Clark". Also surviving are her sister Sharon Dolce and husband Bob of Calgary and brothers Ralph Birston and wife Vivian of Thunder Bay and Robert Birston and wife Pat of Prince George and numerous nieces and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Nel Edith Birston. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery. If friends so desire donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be appreciated.
