It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, holding her family's hands after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on July 19, 1949, to Alice and Toussaint Gaudette. She met the love of her life Jack in her teen years and the two later moved to Calgary where they got married on June 13th 1970. A few years later they had moved back to Thunder Bay where she spent many years working at Westmont Hospital and later at Grandview Lodge Home for the Aged, where she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. She chose early retirement so she could enjoy more time with her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She had a special gift for caring for others, which she carried into her volunteer work at St. Martin School in the JK and SK classes while her grandchildren were attending, a role that brought her much joy and purpose. Doris was always known for her sense of humour and would always be down for dressing up and being a good sport in playing along with anything we asked of her. She never left a room or hung a phone up without saying luv luv or love you and for that we will always be grateful. Doris spent many years at Northern Lights lake raising her family with Jack. She was known for always having a pot of coffee ready in the morning for the campers to stop in and have a cup with them. In the evening she would always welcome anybody in for a drink or a quick game of 31 or twelvsies. She will be missed by all of her NLR family that she has made through out the years. She is survived by her children Theresa (Grant) Duchesne and Johnny (Erin) Currie; her grandchildren Britney Duchesne (Christian), Braeden Duchesne, and Merissa Currie; along with many nieces and nephews. She will also be deeply missed by her faithful fur baby, Susie whom she loved deeply. She was predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Jack Currie. As well as by her ten sisters, three brothers, and her parents. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at a private ceremony at a later date. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the TBRHSC nurses and Doctors for their compassion and care during her final days and also to the family, friends and co workers for all the food, baskets, flowers and gift cards. If so desired, donations in her memory may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund.
