DORIS ANNE HILL
We are saddened to share the passing of our beloved mother and rock amongst us Hills, Doris Anne Hill on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the grand age of 95.
Doris was born on December 10, 1930 in Baird, Ontario to Dona and Adele Vaillant. The fourth eldest of 13 siblings, Mom was fiercely caring and supportive of her family, whom she loved and cherished. Family was the centre of her being and she was the centre of ours. Home was her heart.
A patriotic Canadian and a proud Westfort resident for 55 years, Mom was not one for the limelight. However, she was the star in the background with her infectious laugh, sense of fun and inspiring strength. Incredibly patient & supportive of her husband's community involvement, Mom held the fort which always smelled of fresh air and pinesol. When Dad was awarded the Ontario Medal of Citizenship in 1995, she quipped "I should have gotten one too". Mom was not a conventional woman - married at 30, had her last child at 40, loved working a 'real' job and firmly believed women were as capable as men.
Predeceased by her husband, Richard of 62 years in 2023, Doris leaves her children Suzanne (Graham Brooks), Darren (Penny) and Sheryl (Dave Veltri) and her adored grandchildren Kennedy Brooks (Evan Sandham) and Everett Hill - as well as her siblings: sisters Pat (Roger), Lorraine, Evelyn (Stan), brothers Lorne (Eleanor) and Orville (Eunice), sisters-in-law Wendy and Nan Vaillant.
We gratefully thank the 7N team at Hogarth for Mom's care and compassion these past 2 years with a special shout out to Joseph who teased out her giggles and sassiness. Our deepest gratitude goes to our youngest sister, Sheryl, for the loving and unwavering care of our mother - and to nieces Carolean and Francine for always being there.
A woman of deep faith and parishioner at St. Agnes Church for over 50 years, a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, when family and friends will gather in St. Agnes R.C. Church for Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 am, celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. Interment will be held in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening at the Blake Funeral Chapel from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Foundation for Northern Cardiac Fund
