DORIS KANGAS Obituary
It is with sadness that I announce the passing of my sister, Doris Helena Kangas, on November 29, 2025 at the age of 86 years. Born on August 20th, 1939 in Port Arthur to Meimi and Gunnar Nygard. The Nygard family homestead was in Devon Township.
Doris ventured off to town finding employment at Zellers (Red River Road) and retiring after many years of employment at Safeway's bake dept. (Court Street). Doris was a dedicated, hard worker.
Doris married Pekka John Kangas, and with great joy, they welcomed a son Kevin William Kangas. Doris was a very devoted wife and mother.
She loved her gatherings with her long time friends of the Red Hats. In later years, she found much enjoyment attending the Von Hilldale Program. Paramed's Home Health Team provided a vital link to allow Doris to stay at home as long as possible.
Doris had special neighbours, Melanie and the late Warren (Kevin's best friends). Your Neighbourly gestures were so greatly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone for all your help, care, friendship and kindness shown throughout the years to Doris. She was very grateful, and it meant a lot to her.
Doris is survived by her sister Debra Tenkula (Brian), her sister-in-laws Maureen Nygard and Susan Van Teeffelen (John), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris is predeceased by her beloved son, Kevin, at age 40. This left an immense void in Doris and Pekka's life. Pekka passed away five years later. Doris is also predeceased by her brothers Roy Nygard, his son Barry, and Leo Nygard, and his wife Sharon.
Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery at a later date in Doris Kangas' honour.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street, at Algoma.
