DOROTHEA KEATS Obituary

KEATS May 13, 1950 ~ February 18, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothea Mary Keats (nee Putt), age 74 years of Geraldton, peacefully with family by her side in Geraldton District Hospital on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Dorothea was born in Toronto on May 13, 1950 to Gordon and Ethel (nee Steele) Putt. She worked for many years in Geraldton as an audio visual technician and later transitioned into IT with the Superior-Greenstone District School Board. In her spare time she loved flying, reading, being outdoors kayaking and canoeing and enjoying time spent with her family, friends and pets.

Dorothea will be deeply missed by her spouse, Chris Walterson; children: son, Chris Keats of London, Ontario and daughter Michelle Hutchinson and her husband Andrew Hutchinson of Geraldton Ontario; as well as her brother-in-law James Gardiner of Huntsville, Ontario. Numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family also survive.

She was predeceased by her parents; Gordon & Ethel Putt; brother Warren Putt and sister Helen Gardiner.

In keeping with Dorothea's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Should friends so desire, donations made in her memory to Geraldton District Hospital (Direct Link - https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/26828) would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Everest of Thunder Bay - Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore Street West, Thunder Bay.

Dorothea was one of the first people to really welcome me to my new workplace at Geraldton Composite High School! As the IT person, we had many opportunities to meet up as I collected equipment to use in my classrooms. Our professional relationship developed into a strong friendship; we spent time together over lunch breaks, then dinners at each other´s homes where I was introduced to her immediate family, both human and canine. We shared a love of animals; she supported my startup riding stable by taking lessons, then buying her horse Dusty and boarding him at my farm. We rode miles of trails, including riding the annual fundraiser bike-a-thon on our trusty steeds! We rode together in parades in Nakina, Geraldton and Longlac. She invited me to bring my boys canoeing with her when they were young (Graeme was a toddler still, and Kael was still on a bottle). She and Chris took me to see their plane, and she took aerial photos of our farm. I´m saddened by the news of her passing; she was a kind soul who pursued adventure and learning, from a profound place of curiosity and love of life. My sincere condolences to family and friends; she was an inspiring person and is dearly missed.

Sincere condolences to Dorothea´s family. She was a genuine and patient lady. Her role as IT specialist when she came to Marjorie Mills Public School in Longlac, helped me navigate the computer world´s ups and downs. For that help, I will forever be grateful. May Dorothea rest in peace.
