Doug Burn Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Doug Burn announces his passing on December 29, 2020. Doug aged 76 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed with his family at his side.

Doug was born as the New Years Baby on January 6, 1944 in Geraldton, Ontario. He was raised in Fort William and graduated the Forestry program at Lakehead University in 1965. Upon graduating, Doug started his career with the Great Lakes Paper Company in the kraft mill. In 1975 Doug transferred to the woodlands HR department, and became the personnel supervisor and retired as the HR superintendent in 1998. He was never one to sit around and took on many other roles to keep himself busy. He carried on to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, then transferred to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care as a HR consultant the lastly he took up driving for National Car Rental where he made many friends.

While in high school, Doug met his sweetheart Diane Myhra. They married in 1967, with son Bradley arriving in 1971, and daughter Jennifer completing the family in 1973. Doug was always there for his wife and children and there was nothing he wouldn't do to support them.

Doug enjoyed time spent with family and friends at his camp on Lake Shebandowan, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, and even water skiing. He was so confident, one time he didn't even take off his glasses. Doug enjoyed travelling with his wife all over Canada and the USA. They loved to try their luck at the casinos and they met many wonderful friends along the way. Doug enjoyed his coffee club days with the boys from High Y. The one thing that he loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed a chance to attend every one of their sporting events. He was the best grandfather in the world!

Doug was predeceased by his parents Fred and Jen Burn and his in-laws Ken and Hilda Myhra. Doug is survived by his wife Diane, son Bradley (Bonnie) son Zachery, daughter Jennifer son Joshua, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Betty Ann Burn, sister-in-law Shirley Almgren, brother-in-laws Lorne (Kate) Myhra, Brian (Mairi) Myhra and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many close friends.

Due to Covid 19 there will be no funeral at this time. Services will be at a later date.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Doug was the best neighbour anyone could ask for. He was on top of what was going on, friendly and sociable with the neighbourhood. My parents (Ray & Carolyn) especially enjoyed his keen observations and regular phone calls and visits to stay in touch. They truly considered both of you good friends and wonderful neighbours. Thank you for all of your concerns, kindness and support over the years. My family will miss Doug dearly.

Dear: Diane and family, Please accept our condolences on your recent loss. Words cannot express how sad we were to hear of Dougs' passing. He was a wonderful person, family man and great friend. Our family remembers the kind and giving friend Doug was and all the fond memories of card games every month, camping at Shebandowan Lake, Casino playing at Grand Portage, and the friendly calls paid by Doug to stay in touch and lend a helping hand and ear to his friends. Doug was a very kind and giving person, and will be deeply missed. May the times of Memories passed help to heal the sadness in our hearts. Please know how much we are thinking of you at this time. All our Love, the Johnson Family
