Douglas Kerr Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Kerr on December 18, 2017 at the TBRHSC. Born July 4, 1945 in Fort William, Doug was the youngest of Bill and Elsie Kerr's four children. Educated at Drew Street School and Selkirk High School, Doug went on to become a carmen with CN Rail retiring in 2000. He was a fan of all sports but hockey was by far his favourite. His greatest pride were his children and grandchildren. Rain, snow or sleet, nothing would stop him from watching his grandson's play football or hockey. In fact, it was common to see Doug hanging out at the Fort William Gardens taking in all the weekend games. He would often say that these little kids play better hockey than the Toronto Maple Leafs - and he was a Leafs fan! Doug is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marlene. Children Kristen (Rick) Oliver, Bill (Mary) Kerr and Shannon (Shaun) Casey. Remembering their Grandpa is Carter and Cale Oliver and Logan, Kaitlyn and Deklan Kerr. Doug is also survived by his in-laws Mike and Kathy Missere and nieces Courtney (Mark) and Kelsey Missere, along with nieces and nephews from the Fogolin and Forbes families. He also had a special relationship with his grand-dog Macy Oliver. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Doug's simple wishes, a "Come and Go" reception will take place on Wednesday, December 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Kensington Room at the Victoria Inn. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Humane Society.

So very sad to hear of Doug's passing. Garry and I spent many fun nights out together with Doug at the "D" Room, that is before he met Marlene. He had a great sense of humour and was a special guy. Lost touch many years ago, but just thinking about some of those times, makes me smile. Our condolences to Marlene and the family.
Rest in peace Doug.
