DUNCAN GILLIS
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Duncan Gillis, 86, on Monday, December 15/25 at TBRHSC. Born in Geraldton, Ontario, moving to Port Arthur and Baird Township where he was raised and educated. Duncan worked as a Grain Trimmer in his younger days. Later moving into the construction world as a Ironworker Local 759 and also as an Operator Local 793. He met and fell in love with Mickey Lucas, whom he married on June 24, 1961 and they celebrated 64 years together. In 1991, Mom and Dad moved to the Kaministiquia area where they spent many happy years on Gillis Mountain. It was always tubing in the winter and many happy family gatherings during the summer months. Duncan was always working in the bush, cutting his own firewood and making trails for his 4x4. He was a great outdoorsman. As we were growing up, we were always camping, fishing, and hunting on the weekends. He was a great hunter and taught us many outdoor skills. Duncan loved his family. Survived by his loving wife Mickey, daughters Sherrill (Michael), Vander Hooft and Janis Gillis, granddaughter Amy Lynn (Steve) Vander Hooft; sister Nancy Bridgman, sister-in-law Judy Gillis, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Percy and Frances Gillis, in-laws Michael and Stella Lucas. Siblings Warren, Sandy, Patrick, Stella, Jean, Layis, Gloria, Gerry, Susan, Jackie, Marlene, Loretta, and Marianne. As per Dad's wishes there will be no funeral; cremation has taken place.
Thanks Dad for everything you taught us. Love you.
