Edna Hurst Obituary

1939–2021

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Edna Hurst due to a heart attack. She passed away on October 19, 2021 with the comfort of family by her side.

Edna was born March 21,1939 in Port Arthur, Ontario. Edna is survived by her loving husband Ron and sister Margie Coceancic. Children Tracy Blekkenhorst, Don (Audrey) Hurst, David (Julia) Hurst, Julie (Dave) Hoffman. Grandchildren Ryan (Kaitlyn) Medendorp, Noel (Matthew) Serino, Rikki Del Ben, Taylor-Lynne Hurst, Emily Hurst, Peter Hurst, Sam (Tyra) Hurst, Elden and Jaden Hurst, Kenzie and Nick Hoffman. Great-Grandchildren Ryder and Lilly Medendorp, Markus and Aria Serino, and Lovisa Hurst.

Edna was predeceased by her sons Rusty and Bill Freeman and her brother Robert Bongard.

Edna always maintained a zest for life. In her earlier years fishing and knitting were her favourite hobbies. In recent years she enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and the fun of scratch tickets. Edna always loved baking and trying new recipes. Her famous chocolate chip cookies were constantly in demand. Throughout the years the one thing that remained consistent was her love for Jeopardy. No one dared to interrupt her quality time with Alex Trebek!

It can be said without doubt that Edna's greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her best days were ones spent Facetiming with Noel and all the great-grandkids, or going on coffee dates with her sister Margie.

Edna's wish was for a private family celebration. We would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Joseph's Hospice Care for their support and compassion during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

My deepest condolences to Ron and family. I had the pleasure of meeting her off and on during my childhood visits to Thunder Bay and more recently enjoyed FB message exchanges where she showed so much pride and happiness in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her vegetable garden and numerous cooking and baking recipes. I will sadly miss those cheerful text conversations. Rest In Peace Auntie Edna xo

So very sad to read this. I met Edna years ago at Walmart. She was a regular customer in the photo lab, and I was lucky enough to be her "go to gal" (as she put it lol). Since then, we spoke often on fb and she always stopped to say hello when she was in the store. Im definitely going to miss her great sense of humour, and the laugh and smile that went along with it.
Sending my deepest condolences to her family.
Rest in peace Edna.
