EDNA RAMSAY Obituary

EDNA RAMSAY August 3, 1924 - March 24, 2024
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Edna Monica Ramsay died peacefully with family at her side at Wilkes Terrace, on March 24, 2024, in her 100th year. Edna (nee Godin) was born August 3, 1924, in Schreiber, Ont., in her family home, and for the next 99 years and seven months led an exemplary life. She was born on a Sunday, and passed away on a Sunday, very appropriate for a woman of great faith. She was a devout Catholic who always saw the best in people and she was an inspiration to all those who knew and loved her, especially her husband George and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was tremendously positive and lived a life filled with grace. When asked what her secret was to living such a long happy life, she would say that she is a joyful and caring person. She was predeceased by her husband George, parents David and Marie Louise Godin, brothers Robert, Leo, Gerald, and Lennie, her sisters Rita and Ethel, son-in-law Terry Shaw, and three grandchildren, Chelsea and Amanda Ramsay, and Guinevere Ramsay. Edna is survived by her five children and their spouses, Brian (and Karen) Ramsay, David Ramsay (and Catherine), Teresa Roberts (and Bob), Mary Pat Shaw (and Bob), and Kathleen Buso (and Gabe), 12 grandchildren (Ken, Mark, Tara, Sean, Nathan, Jennifer, Stephen, Kristopher, Michael, Jeremy, Alanna, and Jonathan), and 11 great-grandchildren.As a young woman, she chose a career in nursing and was among one of the first nurses to arrive in Terrace Bay in 1949. There she met the love of her life, George, at a Valentines Day dance and their romance continued for 54 wonderful years. Even after his passing in 2003, she carried him in her heart until the very end. She was fond of saying that when she passed, she would be reunited with her husband. After being married in Schreiber in 1949, George and Edna soon decided to start a family and together they raised five children in a caring and loving home. Edna spent her early-married years as a loving mother but was much more than that throughout her life. As her children grew older, she worked as a school librarian, she also loved to paint and write, and she was an active CWL member for more than 70 years. St. Martin of Tours Catholic church was an integral part of her life and her strong faith. Edna would pray for anyone she knew was in need and one of her favorite pastimes was collecting angel figurines, which she proudly displayed wherever she lived. In later years, one of George and Edna's passions was to visit their children and grandchildren, located across the country. They also liked to travel, including trips to various places in Canada and the United States. The family is planning a funeral mass and memorial service in Terrace Bay this summer to celebrate her extraordinary time on Earth, which she lived in her quiet, gentle way. Our family in Terrace Bay will be dedicating a Sunday Mass in the month of April to honour her life and to share memories with friends.

I just wanted to say, "Thank you Mrs Ramsay!"....

In grade school, living in Terrrace Bay, my parents were both working and so it came to be that I would walk over to Mrs Ramsay's house for soup and sandwich.. this took place every school day for, I recall, the bulk of, in not a whole school year, and maybe longer...

Little things are big things.

A life well lived!

Conolences to Kathleen and Gabe and the whole family. Thank you again Edna!

Best,
Dave Gillen

A woman with tremendous faith, Edna was a beautiful soul inside and out. I enjoyed working with her at St. Martin School in Terrace Bay when I first started teaching. She sure had a great love for her family. My deepest condolences to the Ramsey family.
