EDWARD LINKE Obituary

LINKE
Edward Linke, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully with family by his side at TBRHSC on November 20th, 2023.

A longtime resident of Vickers Heights, he is survived by his loving sons, Robert and Raymond, their wives, Rebecca and Mellissa, and five adoring grandchildren, Tianna, Abraham, Connor, Samuel, and Ila. Ed is also survived by siblings and their spouses: Arthur Linke (Pat), Evelyn Miller (Ken), Alma Newman (Jim), Manda Malkoske (Lloyd) and sister-in-law Helen Linke. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Ida, his parents Hilda and Rheinhold and his siblings Rudy Linke and Frieda Hastman.

Ed started as a salesman for Northern and Central Gas in 1962 and worked for the gas company (throughout its many name changes, now Enbridge) for 33 years. While at the gas company, he worked his way up to become the Regional Sales Manager for the Thunder Bay area and was very proud of his role in expanding the use of natural gas in the region. In retirement, he was an active member of the company's retirement group, especially enjoying the Wednesday retiree coffee club. Ed was also a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and its God's Men group. He enjoyed attending their weekly meetings, and he appreciated the time he spent connecting with friends.

As his sons grew up, Ed was an active member of the local hockey community and helped manage many teams. While not necessarily realizing it at the time, his sons now appreciate his dedication to shuttling them to practices, games and out of town tournaments for many, many years. Another love of Ed's was traveling with Ida. They took many memorable trips, often with friends, to Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Minnesota, Missouri and Nevada. However, it was Ida and Ed`s love for each other that helped them enjoy their many years together and all the memorable experiences they had throughout their lives.

Without a doubt, though, Ed's pride and joy was his five grandchildren. Even as the end was approaching, his favourite topics to discuss were Tianna, Abe, Connor, Samuel, Ila and their varied interests and activities.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held at a later date.
