Edward Seifert Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Seifert announces his passing in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness, on Friday, November 26, 2010.Ed was born in Zyrardow, Poland on December 3, 1923. He was raised and educated in Germany and served in World War II. Ed later married his wife Alice and after the birth of their first child, immigrated to Caramat, Ontario where they began their new life together.Ed was employed with American Can Canada until the early 70's and then moved his family to Thunder Bay, Ontario where he was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital as the Manager of Laundry Services until his retirement.He was extremely active throughout his life. Ed enjoyed curling up until his later years. He was proud of the 2 eight ender's that he achieved. He loved to dance. His other interests included gardening and hobby farming. His pride and joy was breeding special pigeons. Ed loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing and was a great conversationalist. He was always there for those close to him whether it be for advice or lending a helping hand. Ed had a great sense of humour and was joking until the end.Ed will be lovingly remembered by his companion Veronika Fedor; son Willie (Valerie) Seifert, grandson and granddaughter Willie and Shyra (Toby), great grandson and great granddaughter Hunter and Brooklyn; daughter Angela (Ray) Loponen, granddaughters Charlene (Aaron) and Sheryl (Joee); daughter Marion (Jack) Hill, step-granddaughters and step-grandson Tracy (Greg), Jody (Cody), and Darryl (Kayla), step-great granddaughter Avry; granddaughter Christine (Dean), great granddaughters Amber and Cora, and step-great granddaughter Kanisha; niece Anne Marie (Darryl) Ryden and family; extended family in Europe; and Diana Hennel and daughter Erin. Ed was predeceased by his wife Alice Seifert, daughter Ellen Woods, son Ronald Seifert, brother Eric Seifert, and other family members in Europe.Following cremation, Funeral Services for the late Edward Seifert will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Ed Long. Interment will take place at a later date in Geraldton, Ontario. Should friends so desire in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Northwestern Ontario or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
