EDWARD STACHIW Obituary

EDWARD STACHIW 1957 ~ 2026
Ed is now in heaven with his family, having an extra-large coffee or two or maybe even three.

He was born and raised in Thunder Bay, "the best city on the planet", to parents Harry and Frances Stachiw. His early years were spent at McIntyre River reeling in many fish and having fun with family and friends. After receiving his welder certification, he headed out west….." the mountains were calling". He eventually settled in Victoria B.C. working as an artist and later returning home to Thunder Bay.

His favourite saying was "if I can make you smile, it would make my day". Wherever he went, which included the Dew Drop Inn, he showed kindness and faith "by changing the world, even just a little bit".

Ed will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his precious daughter Megan, her mother Casey and her brother Taylor; brother Michael (Susan), sons James (Emilie) and Ryan (Kellie); sister Barb (Randy) Black; niece Kady (Greg) and Matthew (Dawn), children of the late Gerald and Nina Stachiw; Auntie Anne, great-nephews Hunter, Cameron and Lucas, great-niece Hallie, as well as numerous cousins and special friend Patrick Amos.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Frances, brother Gerry, sister-in-law Nina, grandparents, numerous uncles and aunts. Special mention to his Uncle Tommy who he greatly missed.

Heartfelt gratitude to the staff at BISNO for their support and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Emergency and ICU Staff who helped us through a difficult time. You are angels from above.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 9, 2026 in the R. Leino Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Pastor Roma Fisher. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will take place in St. Andrew's Cemetery at a later date.

Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dew Drop Inn, Thunder Bay.

The service will be livestreamed at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered.

Eddie, Ed, Dadio You can do it. The trick is just do it, then it's done and you've gone on to your next adventure.

Ed was a character. I got to know him through his time in Humanities 101 ... he actually ended up being the graduation valedictorian that year. I will never forget our shared time in the classroom - Ed always had something to say, a story to tell, and a word of encouragement for the other students.
