Edward/Ted Reguly Obituary

Edward/Ted Joseph Christopher Reguly passed away at age 80 in the company of his eldest daughter on March 31, 2022, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after battling liver cancer. He chose to end his time on Earth via the Medical Assistance In Dying (M.A.I.D.) option.

Ted was born in Thunder Bay on August 29, 1941, at the Port Arthur General Hospital. He attended St. Martin's and FW Vocational schools. From 1960 to 1966, he was part of the Army Signal Corps. One of his most notable memories from that period was when he got to meet and party with legendary country music artist Hank Snow.

Ted had many jobs in lifetime. His favourite positions were his theatre jobs in both Toronto and Thunder Bay. He worked his way up to being the manager at the Odeon Theatre and increased the theatre's revenue with his innovative ideas.

Ted was a local and travelling salesman for Lakehead Wholesalers for 20 years. He serviced many towns and communities in Northern and Northwestern Ontario. When that business was liquidated, Ted acquired his licence to be a cab driver and subsequently devoted 19 years to working for Diamond Lacey's Taxi before he officially retired.

Ted liked standup comedy and loved sports of all kinds. Throughout his life, he played many, including baseball, hockey, bowling, and golf. He won many competitions and amassed numerous trophies, proudly displayed in his home.

Ted loved shooting pool in his younger as well as his senior years. From playing at Steve's Pool Room in his youth to playing at the 55+ Centre, Ted liked the competition of the game and the camaraderie amongst the guys.

Ted was a gambler for much of his life and enjoyed going to casinos and bingo. He played different card games for money. He played with guys at the Da Vinci Centre, with friends and family at their houses, and with his friends and family at home. In fact, he played cards right up to the end, mostly with his wife and eldest daughter, as one particular rummy game requires a minimum of three people to play it. Playing pool and cards were two of Ted's favourite pastimes in his golden years, alongside betting on sports using the Proline gambling system.

Ted was a likeable person who had a unique sense of humour. Each person whose life he touched always smiled after interacting with him, family and pets included. Ted loved cats and had numerous cats over the years.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Catherine Sozio Covello Reguly and Edward/Ed Emil Reguly. He is survived by his wife, Carol Reguly, his daughters, Lorraine Reguly and Janice (Charles MacLaurin) Woodbeck, his son, Daniel (Tara Foster) Reguly, his grandchildren (Julian, Taryn, Taylor, Alistair, and Samantha), and his numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his younger siblings, brothers Charles/Chuck (Susan) and Brian Reguly, and sister, Runa (Gary) Francis. He will be missed by his buddies and especially missed by those closest to him.

Ted's family had a family reunion and celebration of life while he was still alive. Ted will be cremated. In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held. The family would like to extend their thanks to Drs. Del Paggio and Rumbolt, as well as the other staff at the hospital for their excellent service. An extra special thanks goes to Dr. Ward, who went above and beyond for Ted's family in his final days. Thanks also to the staff at Jenkens Funeral Home. A donation can be made to the charity of your choice. If you would like express your condolences, the family asks that you contact Lorraine Marie Reguly at (807)-251-2836 or via Facebook.

I am so sorry Dan and all your family for your loss. I really enjoyed our get togethers with your parents when you lived in the country. I loved your dad's quick wit and fast answers. He made me laugh. Give your mom a hug for me. Tara's mom, Penny
