Mr. Edward Fred Julien Thorsteinson, age 87, of Beardmore, Ontario, passed away peacefully with family by his side in the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
Ed was born on April 15, 1935 in Port Arthur, Ontario, living in Beardmore during his younger years. He joined the Royal Canadian Army at the camp base Valcartier in Quebec; where he met his wife Mary, together they had 4 children. He worked at a Paper Mill in Quebec for 17 years, until he moved back to Ontario; working for MNR, construction and Domtar Woodland before his retirement. Ed was a proud member of the Legion and lived out the remainder of his life in Beardmore. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and also prospecting; he was a self-taught artist doing numerous paintings.
Ed is survived by Mary Douglas, the mother of his children; loving partner Amy Creese; children: Bob (Leanne) Thorsteinson, Garry (Judy) Thorsteinson, Gregory (Suzanne) Thorsteinson, Kathy Portelance; grandchildren: R.J. (Maire) Thorsteinson, Joe (Candace) Davies, Jason Davies, April (Brian) Michael, Terrence (Kaylee) Thorsteinson, Joseph Thorsteinson, Brandon (Stephanie) Portelance, Trevor Portelance, Jon (Katelyn) Young, James Young; great grandchildren: Alyssa and Tallon Thorsteinson, Violet, Rusty and Fancy Davies, Sebastien Thorsteinson, Julien, Tristian and Chloe Roberts, David Michael, Declan and Isla Thorsteinson, Isabella and Zecharia Thorsteinson, Kayson Portelance; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Joseph Thorsteinson, mother Florence Pottiers Thorsteinson, brothers Joe and David Thorsteinson, and sisters Joy Dillon and Dolores Kindla.
The family of Ed would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital. Also, to the kind-hearted people of Beardmore, Brenda Goodman, Nora Cox, Dave Kindla, Jack Timmerman and R.P.M.
A celebration of life for Ed will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be offered to the Diabetes Foundation.
