Edwin Poole Obituary
Mr. Edwin Ingram Poole, dear father of Lorraine Maley passed away peacefully at Dawson Court on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002. Born in Port Arthur, he was the son of the late David and Maude Poole and received his education in local schools. Ed was employed by the Port Arthur Transit as a bus driver for many years and was proud to retire as the first manager of the amalgamated Thunder Bay Transit System at age 65 after 42 years of service. He will be sorely missed by daughter Lorraine and son-in-law Pat Maley of Dog Lake and Vero Beach, Florida, sisters; Beatrice (Cliff) Robinson and Roberta Callahan, and brothers; Gordon (Mae) and Russell (Marge) Poole. He will be fondly rememberd by his grandchildren Michele Smith , (great grandchildren Michael, Ryan, and Kaleigh); Margot (Tony) Eastham, (great grandchildren Lorraine, Rebecca and Clayton); Patrick (Jodi) Maley (great grandchildren Hanna and J.P. IV) and Jonathan (Stephanie) Maley. Ed was predeceased by his first wife Elsie (Berglund) in 1956, and his second wife Verline (Corrigan) in 1994; his sisters Carmen Shelley in 2001 and Jean Lehman in 2002; his brother Bill Poole in 2002; and his lifelong, faithful friend Bill Gardiner in 2001. Ed's many interests included baseball (well known in the area in his younger years as a skilled pitcher), fishing, bowling, travelling, square dancing, gardening, and as many will attest singing hymns. He took great pleasure in his summer home at Cedar Bay and his winter home in Palm Harbour, Florida. Ed was blessed with a long and happy life, marred only by the affliction of Alzheimer disease in the last few years of his life. During this time he was tenderly cared for by the dedicated and compassionate staff at Dawson Court and his friend and doctor of many years Dr. John Nickerson. Ed was a charming and gentle man and those qualities along with his sincere gratitude to anyone for their help were apparent to the end. His usual words on saying goodbye were " I hope everything goes well with you"- - and with you, Dad.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel 21 N. Court Street officiated by Pastor Dr. Greg McVeigh of St. Lukes Anglican Church. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. , Thursday until service time."
