Edwin Walberg Obituary

Mr. Edwin John Walberg, age 90 years passed away peacefully on Thursday July 25, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Edwin was born and raised in Slate River, where at the young age of 6 he began working on the family farm. As a young man he painted houses along with his brother- in- law John Erickson. After working for 37 years at Great Lakes Paper Edwin retired in 1976 as Forman Painter. He sang in the Slate River Baptist Church Choir for over 30 years and more recently he became a member of the Fort William Baptist Church. Edwin's main interest was his home and family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and travelling with his grandchildren. Edwin was an excellent craftsman and woodworking was his area of expertise. His talent in cabinetry and house building will always be cherished by family who were fortunate to be the recipient of his handy work. Edwin is survived by his wife Rose of 64 years, daughters Sharon (Bill) Smith and Carol (Jim) Kennelly, Granddaughters Sherri (Allan) Pharand, Kari (Brian) Piwonski, Traci Kennelly (Allan Pittman) and Shelly (Joe) Gaudreau. Great grandson Cory and great granddaughters Sierra, Emili-Rose and Jordan. Step-brother Henry Lundquist, special neighbours Jerry and Lillian Della Mattia, sister-in-law Edith Walberg, numerous nieces nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his father Alfred, mother Helen, step-mother Hulda, sister Irma Erickson, brothers Felix, Renus, George, Gordon, and Roland, step-brother Paul Lundquist. Funeral services for the late Mr. Edwin Walberg will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Fort William Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Dibbley officiating. A private family interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 W. Gore Street at James. If friends so desire memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Fort William Baptist Church or to St. Joseph's Hospital would be appreciated.
