EILEEN DUKE Obituary
EILEEN DUKE
Mrs. Eileen Greta Duke (nee Inkinen), age 82 years, passed away peacefully with her loving husband at her side on February 20th, 2026, at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Eileen, or "Aiti" as she was called by her beloved grandchildren, grew up in and spent 79 years of her life living in Lappe where she was a proud member of the community. As the secretary of Gorham and Ware School for over 40 years, she watched entire generations of local children learn and grow. She enjoyed cross country skiing, bird watching, gardening and horses, but her true love in this world was her family. Weekends, summer vacations and March breaks were spent with her grandchildren at the family home. Whether swimming in the pool, relaxing in the sauna, chasing butterflies in the fields or waking them up for a late-night snack, Mom truly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. She hosted countless family dinners, preparing among other things her hashbrown casserole, turnip casserole and her irresistible turkey gravy. Evenings and weekends were spent relaxing on the deck or in front of the fireplace with the people she loved. In retirement, Mom and Dad caught the travel bug. Barbados and St. Lucia were among their favourite destinations. They also enjoyed camping in their travel trailer down in Grand Marais (sometimes with at least one grandchild in tow). Their most recent trips had been to China and a cruise to Alaska to see the whales, a lifelong dream for Mom. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Ernie, her daughter Laurel Loda (Aaron), her grandchildren Amanda Stewart-Bosley (Bryan Bosley), Hallie Nolin (Tyler Collander), Allair Nolin (Kylie Swan), Maddie Loda and her 7 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents and her daughter Dawn Stewart Nolin. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor, Birch Grove, for the exceptional care Mom received and the compassion shown to the family at this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. A small family gathering will be held in the spring to celebrate her life and the amazing person that she was.
