With sadness, our family announces the peaceful passing of Eileen E. Hall (nee Hill) on October 18, 2025, six days before her 97th birthday. Eileen was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, as the second youngest in a family of six children. Following the death of their mother in the early 1930's, Eileen and her younger brother Calvin moved to Riverhurst, Sask. to live with their uncle and aunt, while their older siblings remained with their father.
In Riverhurst, she met Thomas M. (Mac) Hall who would become her husband. Her husband's career in the RCAF brought her to Ontario where Eileen and Mac began their family with the birth of their two children, Peggy and Grant. As a military family, they lived in many locations including London, England before settling in Belleville, Ontario. When life in the armed forces ended, Eileen became a business partner with Mac, and ventured into the motel business in Kingston, Ontario. With success in Kingston, they purchased and operated the Bon Air Motel in Kirkland Lake for several years, followed by retirement to Kanata and Stittsville where they resided for many years. A few years after her husband's death, Eileen moved to Thunder Bay to be closer to family.
Eileen was a capable and hard worker, working in banking as a young woman, raising a family, and managing successful motels. While living in England and in retirement Eileen enjoyed travelling, taking in many sights and experiences. In the summer months, Eileen and Mac enjoyed their cottage on Papineau Lake and golfing at their neighbourhood course where Eileen proudly shot a hole-in-one. The Queensway-Carleton Hospital benefited from her interest in community volunteering with many hours of commitment. She also volunteered in a local elementary school to help children with reading. During her lifetime Eileen had a passion for animals, having many pets, including her most recent lovely orange tabby cat, Tawny. She took great joy in her plants and gardens which always thrived and was an avid reader, antique collector and puzzler.
Eileen is survived by her daughter, Peggy; daughter-in-law, Judy; grandchildren, Tom (Madel), Julia, Suzanna (Tyson), Katherine (Dante) and Jennifer (Joe); sister-in-law-Margaret Hill and nieces and nephews. She was also fortunate to have four great grandchildren; Lukas, Lochlann, Max, and Talia; all of whom brought her great joy. She is predeceased by husband, LT Col T.M. (Mac) Hall; son, Grant; siblings Bill, Enid, Terrance, Bud and Calvin and in-laws Jim and Rae Hall.
Our family thanks the dedicated staff at Chartwell Thunder Bay for their many years of compassionate care for Eileen. Thank you to the orthopaedic team and nursing staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their care during Eileen's recent treatment. A family graveside ceremony is planned for spring 2026 at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa. She will be greatly missed by us all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
