Elda Mehagan Obituary

December 13, 1953 – April 17, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Ms. Elda Mehagan, of Thunder Bay and Deer Lake First Nation, announces her passing, at the age of 64, at the TBRHSC with family by her side.

Elda was born in Deer Lake, Ontario in 1953. She came to Thunder Bay to attend high school and college, then went onto a long career in healthcare, working at Hogarth-Westmount Hospital and Options Northwest. She met her late husband Ken early in life in Port Arthur and they had two boys, Shawn and Brent. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and knitting, but it was all about being a great mom and wife when not at work. Almost every weekend in the summer was spent with the family at a campground enjoying a nice bonfire and country music.

Elda was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her mother Kamina, her brother Henry, her sister Yvonne, and brother-in-law Brian.

She is survived by her sons Shawn and Brent, brothers Delbert, Hollie, Morris, and Kelly, sisters Bella, Ruthanne, and Nessa, her father Menassie, and a tremendous number of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends of Elda will take place on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Harbourview Funeral Centre. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Donations may be made in honour of Elda to the Humane Society or Kitty Kare.

I was fortunate enough to meet Elda at Hogarth. We became friends when she'd never let me take the bus after an evening shift. She took me all the way to Current River. Sincere condolences, will always remember "grapes" ❤

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Elda. I had the pleasure of knowing Elda while working at Hogarth-Westmount and later at options Northwest.

She was truly a very kind person and I enjoyed the many times we chatted over the years. It was my pleasure to share honours with her when the retirement dinner occurred for us.

I know she is dearly missed by all concerned. RIP Elda you were one of a kind and my life was richer for having known you.. My only regret is that I didn't have the time to say that to her personally...

Shaun and Brent, I was just thinking about your mom the other day and as always it was with fondness and love. While we had lost touch in recent years she was never far from my thoughts. I'm so thankful to have had her as my mentor when I first started working at Hogarth and as a friend these many years.
She loved you boys so much and was so proud of each of you and all that you accomplished in life, and I know she loved your dad so much.
May you be comforted by memories of love and time spent together as a family.

My deepest condolences to you both at this sad time.
