ELEANOR KOVAC Obituary

ELEANOR MARGARET KOVAC
It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of our Auntie, Eleanor Margaret Kovac, on April 3, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospice in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Surrounded by family and the compassionate care of the hospice staff, Eleanor faced her final days with quiet strength and grace. Eleanor's faith as Roman Catholic, was a guiding force throughout her life. She lived her beliefs through her actions, offering warmth and generosity to all who knew her. Whether driving people to appointments, running errands, or simply providing her presence and good company, Eleanor was a quiet helper, always ready to lend a hand when needed. Eleanor's career as a Bookkeeper with a local refrigeration company was marked by dedication, but her greatest impact was felt in her everyday interactions with family, friends, and the community. She found joy in life's simple pleasures tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, savoring peaceful moments at the family camp, and enjoying coffee by the harbour as she watched the ships pass by and the birds soar. Eleanor's creativity shone through her artwork, often inspired by nature and holidays, which now graces the homes of her nieces and continues to bring beauty and warmth. She had a natural talent for problem-solving, often finding clever and creative solutions for projects around the house. Eleanor also loved animals, especially her cherished cats, Parker and the late Sydney, whose companionship brought her great joy. She delighted in word puzzles, cards and games with family and friends, especially Rummikub. Two of her favorite songs, Wild Thing by The Troggs and My Life by Billy Joel, reflected her independent spirit and spark. One of her favourite hymns, "We Thank You for Your Blessings," expressed her deep gratitude for life's beauty and God's care. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Helen Kovach; her siblings, Mary, James, Frank, Patrick, and Ethel; and her sister-in-law, Janine. She is survived by her beloved nieces, Diane (John) and Denyse; her cousin, Larry; and many friends who will remember her quiet warmth, quick wit, and unwavering kindness. We were blessed to have Eleanor in our lives. Her strength, kindness, laughter, and wisdom remain in the hearts of all those who knew her. She reminded us to always find joy in the simple things, and that in difficult times, "sometimes you just need to get through it one minute at a time". She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Auntie, thank you for filling our lives with so much love, laughter and cherished memories. Your strength and kindness will guide us always, as you live forever in our hearts. As per Eleanor's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, and in honour of her love for animals and her generous spirit, donations can be made in Eleanor's name to charities: Thunder Bay District Humane Society, 1535 Rosslyn Road, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 6W2 or St. Patrick's Cathedral, 211 South Archibald Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 1G4.
