It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Elena Ferrato (Coschi), age 89. Elena passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at TBRHSC. She was born in Mangone (CS) Italy, on January 18th, 1924. In hopes of a more prosperous future, she immigrated to Port Arthur in 1967 with her husband and children. Elena and her husband Quirino were happily married for 66 years. She was loved and well respected by everyone, as her first priority was always her family. Elena had a wonderful love for music with a beautiful voice to share with everyone. She was known to all her friends and family as "Cuore Contento" (happy heart).As a charitable and devoted Catholic, she was a lifetime parishioner of St. Anthony's Church. She enjoyed attending mass weekly. In her free time, Elena enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and hosting weekly family dinners and holiday celebrations. She always looked forward to her visits to Italy to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Christmas was always a special time to get together and enjoy all her holiday baking. At the beginning of every meal, Nonna always made sure to remind everyone that the most important thing in a family is peace; she believed that without peace there is nothing. Her wisdom and guidance will live on in her family's hearts forever.She was a loving wife, mother, sister, Nonna, and friend. Elena is survived by her family which includes: husband Quirino Ferrato; children Mary (Branko) Ljubicic, Silvano (Rhonda) Ferrato, Rose (Peter) Pileggi, Frank (Gina) Ferrato and Santino (Margaret) Ferrato; grandchildren Antonio (Candida) Gregorini, Liberata Gregorini, Daniella Gregorini, Elena Gregorini, Valeria Gregorini, Glen Ljubicic, Laura (Dave) Marshalok, Ellie (Angelo) Tucci, Angie (Walter) Morrison, Gina (John Thomas) Pileggi, Nadia Pileggi, Vince (Amanda Daniels) Pileggi, Elena (Joe) Quaresima, Nicole Holomego, Melissa (Fitzroy) Jacobs, Keith Krezonoski, Darren (Sam Karschti) Ferrato, Sadie (Duran Gerow) Krezonoski; and 22 great grandchildren. Also, she leaves behind her sister Ines Nicoletti (her best friend), her sister-in-law Maria Coschi and numerous nieces and nephews. Elena was predeceased by her daughter: Teresa Ferrato (Gregorini), her parents: Eugenio Coschi & Gaetana Guarasci, her brothers Mario Coschi & Francesco (Maria) Coschi, her brothers and sisters in-law Eugenio Nicoletti, Giovanni (Madalena) Ferrato, Ernesto (Assunta) Ferrato, Ida (Renato) Nicoletti and Mario Ferrato. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, 123 Hilldale Road, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church, beginning one hour prior to the Mass.
