ELISABETTA BATTISTON 1928 ~ 2026
Elisabetta (Elizabeth) Battiston aged 97 years of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at Southbridge Roseview Manor on January 21, 2026. She was born in Cordenons, Italy on October 16, 1928, to Luigia Paier and Davide DeMarco. She resided in her hometown until her marriage to Desiderio Battiston on April 19, 1958, after which she emigrated to Fort William, Ontario. Together they built a home on Gordon Street where they welcomed and raised their only child, Loretta. She lived in the family home for 65 years until she moved into Roseview Manor in September of 2024.
Elisabetta was an accomplished seamstress, gardener and cook; her Sunday evening meals were a real treat for her family and friends. She loved to travel whenever possible whether it was just a picnic at Chippewa or Centennial Park with her in-laws Gino, Maria and their sons, Robert and Luigi or a sojourn back to Italy. She especially enjoyed winter trips to Lake Chapala, Mexico where she made many friends and became fluent in Spanish.
She was predeceased by her parents Luigia Paier and Davide DeMarco, her brother Elvio DeMarco, her husband, Desiderio Battiston and her cherished daughter Loretta O'Brien. She also leaves behind numerous family and friends in Italy, Argentina, Australia, and Mexico.
Elisabetta is survived by her son-in-law Mark (Sonya) O'Brien, her grandsons Lucas O'Brien and Christian (Gabriela) O'Brien, her great grandchildren Santana, Elroy, Rosa and Lucy O'Brien, her Goddaughter Mary (Brian) Marrion and her caregiver and friend, Angela Carter-Tysoski. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Alfonso (Giannina) Battiston, sisters-in-law Maria Battiston, Velia Morettin and Irma Tomasi, nephews Robert (Felicetta) Battiston and Luigi (Christine) Battiston and her dear cousin Elda (Sergio) Bortolin and family.
The family of Elisabetta Battiston wishes to thank the staff of Southbridge Roseview Manor for all their care for Nonna over the past 17 months.
Funeral Services for Elisabetta will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026 at St. Agnes Church, 1019 Brown St, Thunder Bay, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Larry Kurec at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Harbourview Funeral Centre on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 2:00 4:00 p.m. with vigil prayers being offered at 3:00 p.m. presided Rev. Mr. Pasquale Coccimiglio.
