ELISABETTA NUCCI Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the Nucci family announce the passing of their Matriarch, Elisabetta "Lisetta" Nucci on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Born in Malito, Italy on April 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Franco and Francesca Funari. As a young woman in Italy, Lisetta married Mario Nucci and in 1952 she immigrated to Canada to join Mario who had arrived a year prior. They initially lived at Madsen Mine, near Red Lake, before settling in Port Arthur. Together they raised 3 sons: Santino, Joe and Danny. Her greatest love was her family and with the addition of her 3 daughters-in-law, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren she found happiness she never could have imagined. An amazing cook, Lisetta took great pride and enjoyment in occasions where she could have all of her family together and prepare delicious meals for them, with Christmas Dinner being most special to her. She ensured that there was always enough food for everyone to take some home afterwards. Lisetta lived a life dedicated to caring for others. She possessed a unique sense of humour, wisdom, a strong will, true compassion and was a very generous person. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she so looked forward to their visits and phone calls.
Lisetta will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her sons: Santino (Mary), Joe (Elizabeth) and Danny (Kathy), grandchildren: Justin (Brittaney), Myles (Andrea), Spencer, Cassandra, Mario, Daniel (Kaitlyn), Elizabeth, Nicholas (Miranda) and Madison; great grandchildren: Mia, Maxwell, Leo, Taya, Ivy and Isaac, sisters Sara DeCicco and Franca Funari (Giuseppe), sister-in-law Giga as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Mario, parents Franco and Francesca Funari, brothers Filipo, Giovanni and Mario and sisters Onorina, Rosa and Pieda.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. The entombment will follow at Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum. Visitation for friends will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Charity of Your Choice would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street.
