ELIZABETH "BETTY" MAKI
With broken hearts, we share the passing of Elizabeth "Betty" Maki on November 30, 2025 at the age of 93.
Betty was born on June 5, 1932 in Fort William, Ontario. Betty grew up in the east end until she met her husband Karl (Kaarlo).
Betty worked in numerous places, finally retiring from the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital (LPH).
Betty was an avid bowler for the past 50 years and enjoyed sharing her memories and passion of the sport. Furthermore, Betty was an avid knitter, perogy connoisseur and enjoyed baking Finnish coffee bread for her friends and family. Betty always loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, her husband Karl, her daughters Karen and Debbie as well as her son-in-law Mike Vester, her siblings Tony, Jenchi, Peter, Joe, Mary and her nieces Bev and Cathy.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons Kerry (Theresa) and Lauren (Julianna), son-in-law Marshall, along with her grandchildren Kyle, Jamie (Lindy), Lexi (Jordan), Jessica, Lauren, Trent, Jordan, and great grandchildren Owen and Cooper. Betty is also survived by her sister Theresa, nephews John and Rick, niece Carol, her sister-in-law Marguerite as well as her nieces and nephews Ron, Laura, Sharon, Charlotte and Patti.
We would like to thank the staff at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital, alongside Dr. Calonego and the other physicians for their care.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the R. Leino Memorial Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Terry Sawchuk. Visitation will commence at 12:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Corpus Christi Church.
