It is with great sadness that the family of Ellen (Margaret) Delyea (nee Poulter) announce her passing at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Ellen was born April 4, 1939, in Fort William, Ontario where she grew up with her family and many friends. As a young woman growing up on Rosslyn Road, she spent many hours with her neighborhood friends where she met the love of her life Bill "Jiggs" Delyea who she married on May 28, 1959. Shortly after which they moved to Twin City Crossroads where they raised their family, a place that was home to many Delyea adventures and later a place that would be visited by grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ellen had numerous work experiences outside the family home over the years, but her focus was always the care of her family and making sure that dad was well fed and that the son in laws had not drank the last beer from the fridge. She was a devoted Mother, that was tremendously proud of all 4 of her children, 8 grandchildren, and all her great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed travelling throughout the country with family members over the years and had many great experiences while "on the road", enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The stories that came back from her adventures kept the family entertained for hours as these trips always had stories attached. The memories from these visits will be remembered by all. While the summers involved the many road trips the winters were filled with many trips to bowling alleys and hockey rinks to watch the grandchildren play and to make sure they got their Loonie for a treat after the game. Ellen is survived by and will be missed tremendously by her children Sherry (Larry) Groom and Karen (Ron) Kempe. She will also be sadly missed by grandchildren Jason (Tanis) Kempe, Pamela (Michael) Wahlstrom, Kurtis (Meagan) Kempe, Kylie (Barry) Anderson, Robert (Dayna) Groom, Brandon Delyea (Josee Ferrari), Andrew (Chelsea) Groom and Danielle Delyea. Double G will also be missed by her great grandchildren Jessica Kempe, Hudson and Zachary Wahlstrom, Avery Lorentz-Kempe and Allivia Kempe, Daya and Brynnlee Anderson, Owen and Nash Groom, Lincoln Ferrari-Delyea, Isabelle and Ashton Groom. Ellen is survived by sister Barbara Balec, brother Frank (Linda) Poulter & sister Jane (Bill) Aitken as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and longtime friends. Ellen is predeceased by her husband Bill Delyea (2013), son Billy Delyea (2018), great grandson Matthew Kempe (2023) and daughter Lacy Delyea (2024). As per Ellen's wishes there will be no service and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or a
Charity of Your Choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
