Mrs. Ellen Leiberg passed away at her home in Thunder Bay on March 12, 2023, at the age of 91 years. Ellen was a kind and generous soul, with a bright smile and a cheerful laugh. She could make anything grow. She truly loved her family and all her many pets over the years, and was loved by them in return. Ellen was born in Port Arthur. Her early years were spent on the family homestead in Lappe, followed by a move to Port Arthur. Ellen secured her first job just prior to her graduation with Bonin Dobie Jackson Ltd. Insurance. She went on to work numerous jobs in many parts of Canada as the family moved for her husband's assignments with the Canadian Armed Forces. Ellen met her husband Lee (Oliver) at the Prince Arthur Hotel. They were married on April 13, 1953 and remained married for 66 years before his passing on August 19, 2019. Ellen was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, attending Bethel and Lappe Churches. She was an active member, holding many roles over the years, such as treasurer and secretary. Ellen is survived by her children Mike Leiberg and Sheryl (Aarre) Ertolahti; her grandchildren Kayla (Mike) Vecchio, Lisa and Leila Ertolahti, Bonnie Bain and great granddaughter Fallan Bain. She is predeceased by her husband Oliver (Lee) Leiberg, sister Irma Sundell, parents Gertrude and Urho Maki, and most recently her beloved cat Lillie. Ellen had wanted to try a “really good scotch” for her 92nd birthday, so please raise a glass to her on May 13th if you so imbibe. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Lappe Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life, will take place in July.

Sherrie & Mike: So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I'll always remember her for her warmth and kindness which just seemed to naturally flow from her. Condolences to both of you and your families.
