ELMER AULD Obituary

ELMER CECIL AULD Born in Port Arthur July 4, 1924
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Elmer. He was a life long resident of Thunder Bay. Worked at Imperial Oil, Vulcan Machinery, Manitoba Pool Elevators retiring in 1982. Elmer enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served in WWII from 1941 to 1945. He held the position of an ASDIC operator in submarine detection on the Minesweeper HMCS Burlington, Corvette HMCS Giffard, and also the Fairmile Q94. Like all of his shipmates he sailed as escorts in convoys during the height of the "Battle of the Atlantic." He received many medals for his Naval Service. Long time member of the Shuniah Masonic Lodge, Fort William Scottish Rite and Lakehead Shrine Club. He was the longest member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5 & 6 spanning 81 years. Also a member of the Thunder Bay Naval Association. Elmer participated in numerous sports, football (Redskins), curling (Fort William Curling Club), golfing (Fort William Country Club). Elmer enjoyed working at his "Labour Camp" at Island Lake. He had travelled throughout Canada and the USA finally splitting his time between Camp and his winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Elmer is predeceased by his wife of 67 years (Irma) in 2015. Brother Harry (Audrey). Elmer is survived by his loving children Son: Richard (Rhonda) Sudbury, Grandchildren Ryan (Janique) Sturgeon Falls, Kelly London, Ontario Daughter: Catherine Winko (Dennis), Grandchildren Ken (Sarah), Kevin (Kylee) Thunder Bay, Great Grand Children: Kade & Noa Winko, Theo Auld. Memorial Donations: War Amps Ontario, Salvation Army. A family gathering will occur at a later date.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Elmer´s passing. What an incredible man he was... always out and about on his electric wheelchair.. nothing stopped him. He never complained.. always cheerful.. what a sad day this is without him in it.

We are so sorry for your loss. Elmer was my mother´s neighbour for many years. He was so outgoing, smart, kind & energetic! We would often run into him at grocery stores & the library. He will be deeply missed. Anne & Aila
