Elsie Chochla Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Elsie Flora Chochla (nee Valeri), aged 83 years, on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. At the moment of her passing she was surrounded by her loving husband and family. She passed away peacefully at her residence, Grandview Lodge. Born on March 23, 1927 in Fort William. Elsie was devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family camping, fishing and playing cribbage at the family camp at Hawkeye Lake. Everyone who was acquainted with Elsie knew her to be caring and giving, a great cook and seamstress. She was passionate about reading and telling stories of past experiences to her grandchildren, enjoyed trips to religious shrines and she attended mass on a regular basis. Elsie and John celebrated their 59th year of marriage on March 31, 2010. They first met when John went to a dental appointment, and Elsie was the dental assistant. It was love at first sight. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. Elsie is survived by her loving husband John; her children, Barbara (Joe) Prpich and Loretta (Ron) Haluczak; daughter-in-law Laurie Chochla; seven grandchildren, Cathy (Ryan) Sutherland, Joanna (Cliff) Long, Kimberly (Matt) Upton, Tyler Haluczak, Matthew (Veronica) of Calgary, Steven and Chrissy Chochla; four great-grandchildren, Bryanna Sutherland, Catrina and Jessica Long and Tessa Pitkanen-Chochla; two sisters, Mary Duchnicki and Rita Ruby; brother and sister-in-laws Tony and Frances Chochla and Mike Chochla; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Angelo Valeri; son Gary John; brother-in-laws Morris Chochla, Edward Ruby and Frank Duchnicki; sister-in-law Theresa Chochla; mother and father-in-law Sophie and John Chochla Sr. Prayers will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla, V.G. at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. For those wishing, memorial donations can be made to Grandview Lodge. On line condolences at:www.jenkens-funeral.caJENKENS FUNERAL HOMECREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE(807) 623-3433 "
