ENID DOREEN McKENZIE
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Enid Doreen McKenzie (nee Wilson) on August 27, 2025.
Enid was born in Birtle, Manitoba on Mother's Day, May 14, 1933, the first born of Lorne and Doris Wilson. She grew up in Kenton, Manitoba. After high school, she attended the X-ray Technician Program at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, graduating in 1954. Enid read a small ad in the Winnipeg paper advertising a vacancy for an X-ray Tech at McKellar General Hospital and got on the train and never looked back.
In 1955, Enid married Clifford James (Jim) McKenzie and they began their life together. Enid and Jim raised four children Jay, Jeff, Joanne and Jackie starting in Westfort, and moving to Riverview Drive in 1970. Later, she partnered with Jim in selling Real Estate, where together they enjoyed much success. Enid's life was based on 4 pillars, love of family, music, church and community. Music was a huge part of our family and lives, spirited by Enid, a talented piano player and music lover! She loved her community and volunteered in many capacities over the years but most notably, her 39+ year involvement in a variety of roles with the local chapter of Soroptimist, as leader and pianist with the Senior Music Makers for 20+ years, and organist at Knox United on Pruden Street. Volunteer awards and recognition were not what drove Mom's sense of philanthropy and compassion, but the many friendships and connections that she made over the years.
Enid is predeceased by husband Jim (2001), and many other beloved family and friends. She is survived by her children, Jay (Janis), Jeff (Rhonda), Joanne (Steve Kranyak) and Jackie (Tom Jackson). Proud Grandma and Great-Grandma to Paige, Hannah, Josh and Zach McKenzie; Megan (Nic Przada) and children: Chloe, Madelyn, Charlotte Enid Przada; Mitchell (Dee) and children: Victoria, Isabel, Elena McKenzie; Alexander and Jonathon (Brianne) and baby Lauren Kranyak; TJ and McKenzie Jackson; Kelly (Sarah) Laferriere and Danielle (Marc Walton) and children Conor and Juliette Walton. Also survived by her siblings, Jan (Mel) Dixon, Wayne (Eva) Wilson and Grant Wilson (Ajia Wang), in-laws, Gordon and Murray McKenzie and Joan (Walter) Duczeminski and families, as well as other extended family.
Thanks to the many people who enriched mom's life over the years and especially to the residents and staff of Jasper Place who nurtured and enhanced her final years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11 am at First Wesley United Church, 130 Brodie St. N, Thunder Bay. If so desired, donations can be made to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
