ERNEST BARRIE Obituary

ERNEST BARRIE
Ernest Edgar Barrie, born on April 8, 1944, passed away on Februaryl 18, 2026, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with his son Dan by his side.

Raised in Slate River with his siblings by William and Winnifred, Ernie attended Riverdale Public School and Selkirk High School.

Initially a small motor mechanic, Ernie retired from the City of Thunder Bay after 25 years of dedicated service as a master plumber in the water meter department. Throughout his nearly 50 years of work, Ernie was a beloved figure among his colleagues, known for his wonderful sense of humour.

Ernie found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing with his buddy Billy Glidden, cheering on his favorite NASCAR races, and listening to the music of Gene Watson. He cherished dancing with his wife, wintering in Harlingen, Texas, car shows with his classic and most of all, spending meaningful time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Verna; sons Bill and Dan (Pam); grandchildren Brittany (McKeegan) and Robert (Madison); great grand daughter Celeste and his furry companion Wally, as well as a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Winnifred, sisters Edna Irwin, Joan Petruk, Edythe Magus, Gloria Carlson, Brenda Pelkie, and brothers Frank Walsh, Bill Walsh, Jack Walsh, and Brian Barrie. As well as in-laws Kathleen and Albert Otway Sr.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's management and staff. Special thanks to Dr. Ward (nurse Robert) and all of the nurses of 3A for their extraordinary care.

A celebration of life will be held at the Best Western Plus Nor'Wester Hotel & Conference Centre - Saturday, April 18, 2026, 1-4pm.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
