I was shocked to hear of Ernie’s passing. I knew Ernie well when he lived in The Pas, MB, and we made numerous flyfishing trips together, along with the rest of our crew. Just a really good guy, knowledgeable and always ready for a fishing trip. I have some great memories.

Ernie guided us flyfishing on 2 occasions. He was very kind and patient and a great teacher. He knew where the fish were. We will miss him-he was a very special person!

Ernie was a talented, smart man. Our son was so amazed at his garage project that was so awesome. I remember Ernie and Gary Hodgins spending countless lunch hours discussing fishing and hunting at Domtar. He will be missed.

Condolences to the family for your lose. Ernie was the most senior active Fly fisherman on the Nipigon River. Tremendous practical knowledge has been lost. Also, he was a very solid Pulpmill Superintendant and good to work with.

Dear Linda and family,
When I was little, I would always be so excited to go to Nipigon to hang out with my Benson cousins.
Ernie used to take me for dune buggy rides down all the back lanes.
I couldn’t tell you the name of the lake where he took me fishing but I certainly have a vivid memory of catching more fish then I have ever caught in my life. It was pouring rain and we just kept on fishin. The excitement was so great that the worms couldn’t get on my hook fast enough. They were Specs. and we sure had a good feed of fish that night.
I was always secretly hoping that he would be around when I visited.
He will be missed by me.

When Ernie first started working with me out of school, Domtar Mill Manager Steve Hessian popped in to offer "watch this guy, he has a lot of good ideas". Our sympathy to his family.
