EVALD OUNPUU Obituary

EVALD OUNPUU Evald Ounpuu of Richmond, BC died peacefully on November 25, 2025 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Evald was born on February 5th, 1935 to Osvald and Marie Ounpuu in Kuressaare, Estonia. His childhood was marked by the hardship of war. Evald's family eventually fled Estonia in search of a safer and more peaceful life first to Sweden and then to Canada.

In Canada, the family found their way to the West Coast and settled in Richmond. Evald graduated from Richmond High School in 1954 and then went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering at UBC.

After relocating to Thunder Bay, Ontario to take on the General Manager role at Fort William Hydro, he met Muriel Cross at Fort William Baptist Church. They were married in 1964 and had three children, John, Linda and Karen.

Evald moved back to Richmond with his family in 1981 and began working for the Federal Government in Vancouver, where he remained until his retirement in 1995.

Evald was a devout Christian and an active member of the community at Trinity Baptist Church in Vancouver. He played the role of Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and also helped out with the church's ESL Program. He was also an active member of Gideons International for many years.

He is survived by his wife Muriel, his brother Hans, his three children and his six grandchildren Erik, Markus, Finley, Thomas, Sofia and Ella.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on January 17th, 2026 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Union Gospel Mission are welcome.
