EVELYN HEROUX Obituary

December 1, 1934 ~ October 21, 2025
In loving memory of Evelyn (Ali) Héroux (née Akervall), who passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2025, at the age of 90. A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Evelyn was a quiet force of wisdom, compassion, and steadfast love.

Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, to Uno and Anna Akervall (née Jafs), who immigrated from Finland, Evelyn embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and dedication. She was a secret vault of abilities never boastful, always humble often surprising those around her with her quiet skill and knowledge. She had a gift for helping others see an easier way forward, for lending a hand without fanfare, and for working tirelessly for her family and loved ones. Her dedication to her children and grandchildren was unwavering; she worked for and with her family all her life.

She was constantly fighting for the underdog and while we sometimes thought she was the underdog herself, she never really was. Evelyn's strength came from empathy, her courage from compassion, and her joy from lifting others up.

Evelyn is survived by her four children: David (Julie), Gregory (Laura), Cameron (Kathy), and Belinda (Rich); twelve grandchildren: Chelsea (Steve), E (Dan), Samantha, Erin, Jordan, Jelayna, Carson (Emily), Ocean, River, Nina, Kathryn, and Evie; great-grandson Logan; sister Anna Åkervall; sisters-in-law Lorna Akervall, Lucette Héroux, Huguette Boileau, and Lise St. Onge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families in Thunder Bay, North Bay, Temiskaming, Montreal, and Vancouver, and extended family in Finland and Sweden.

Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband Gilles Frank Héroux, parents Uno and Anna Akervall, brother Henry Akervall, sister Freda Karioja, brother-in-law Peter Karioja, parents-in-law Amable and Germaine Héroux, and sisters-in-law Louise Violette, Gaetan Gribbon, Francine Thompson, and Suzelle Ramsay, and lifelong friend Marlene Figus.

Her warmth, generosity, and quiet intelligence will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Reception Hall of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 Court Street North, Thunder Bay. Private interment to follow. Please honour Evelyn's memory through simple acts of kindness helping someone in need, offering encouragement, or taking the time to truly listen-as she did so naturally every day.
