Our hearts are brokenFlemming Hald died on December 13, 2013, at the Toronto General Hospital. His wife Taylore Lea Hald, was, as always, by his side. Diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on December 1, 2009. Flemming never gave up his fight to live. He participated in clinical drug trials at the Firestone Clinic in Hamilton. He spoke at lectures and appeared on the news in his efforts to assist research and to help raise public awareness of this devastating disease. On January 13, 2013, Flemming underwent a lung transplant at the Toronto General Hospital. Unfortunately Flemming suffered numerous complications and despite his valiant efforts and the very best and constant efforts of the transplant team, doctors, nurses, transplant co-ordinators, PCA's and his ever loving and supportive family and friends, Flemming lost his battle to live "just a little bit longer". Flemming immigrated from Denmark with his parents and brothers when he was four years old. Throughout his life he was a mentor, teacher, friend and adventurer. He chose a life for himself that was not for the timid, proudly serving the people of Ontario as a police officer for 30 years and retiring from the OPP as a Detective Sergeant. It's impossible for any of us to imagine life without Flemming - but he and his first wife Pam Hald raised two sons, Kristian and Michael and Flemming's grandchildren; Rebecca, Dylan, Logan, Emily, Flynn and Penelope will provide us with a beautiful reminder of his life. Flemming's step-children, Aaron and Justin Lea-Stoddart will also take with them throughout their own lives Flemming's love, advice and support. He will live in Taylore's heart forever. Flemming's children, stepchildren, grandchildren, brothers; Fred (Pat), Frits (Ella) and Tony (Laurie), and his nieces and nephews; Trina, Kari, Kristi, Corey, Krystal, Kristopher, Kaila and Kody and Taylore's family and all of his friends will miss him forever. All of you meant a great deal to him. Our family, friends and our co-workers at the OPP and our former co-workers from the Thunder Bay City Police were our rock during the last four years. You were needed and you were always there. Thank you. Flemming and I were always comforted and humbled by your constant love and support. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at PLEASANTVIEW FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETEREY (2250 Hwy 20 at Merrittville Hwy with entrance off Merrittville Hwy (905)892-1699) on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 6-9 pm. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel.
