RICHARDSON (née: Machushak)
With great sadness, the family of Florence May Richardson (née Machushak), age 95, announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 21, 1930, in Port Arthur, Ontario, Florence was a cherished daughter of the late Wasyl and Mary Machushak (née Klukie). She married the late Ralph Richardson on September 2, 1950.
Florence attended Hillcrest High School and went on to achieve her hairdressing license. Her career spanned 55 years, during which she formed many meaningful and lasting relationships. After retiring, her work ethic and dedication to her community never wavered. She devoted her time to local organizations including the St. Paul's United Church Senior Ladies Group and Shelter House. Known for her kindness and genuine care for others, Florence was often found sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with clients after completing her cooking duties at Shelter House.
A gracious host of countless family gatherings, Florence spent decades bringing her loved ones together for every holiday. As a talented cook, she created cherished memories around the dinner table, always ensuring everyone else had a delicious meal to enjoy before sitting down to enjoy hers. She was as a truly giving and selfless person who always put others first.
In 2020, Florence sold her home on Elm Street and moved to the Walford, residing there for five and a half years. Her kind and loving spirit touched the lives of Amanda, the staff, and fellow residents there. The excellent care provided to our mother during her time at the Walford will always be deeply appreciated.
Florence is survived by her son, Glenn (Evelyn) Richardson; daughter, Susan (Ken) Umpherson; grandchildren, Heather (Les) Lagace and Craig Richardson; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Jack, who brought her immense pride and joy. She will also be missed by her extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph (July 23, 2013); parents, Wasyl and Mary Machushak; and sister, Helen Drapkin.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care and compassion during Mom's final days. We would also like to thank Amanda and the staff at the Walford for their care, kindness and friendship in her remaining years.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's United Church or a
Charity of Your Choice would be greatly appreciated.
