Frank Burns Obituary

Frank Burns passed away peacefully, at home, on January 6, 2023, at the age of 71, after battling cancer for 2 years. Frank was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada at the age of 6 with his mother and sister. He was a loving husband and best friend to his wife Debbie, they were married 47 years. Frank was a devoted father to his children Dale and Heather Burns and dedicated grandfather to his 7 grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying simple pleasures such as music, good conversation and a good glass of wine or beer. He loved every moment he had with his family and friends, he also enjoyed his time volunteering. He volunteered yearly with Christmas cheer and also came to lead the wonderful team of volunteers for Bicycles for Humanity, Thunder Bay chapter. Frank retired as a second class engineer from Great Lakes (papermill) after 34 years. Frank is survived by his wife Debbie Burns (Leach) son Dale Burns, daughter in-law Ashely Burns and four grandsons (Damain, Hunter, Alec, Sloan) daughter Heather Burns, son in-law Josh Maxwell and three granddaughters (Elizabeth, Avery, Olivia) sister in-law Sandra Ried, nieces and nephews. Frank is predeceased by his parents Archibald and Ann Burns, brother Gordon Burns, sister Marion Macnaughton, sisters in-law Dylis Burns and Brenda Merrifield, brothers in-law Cole Merrifield and Jim Ried, niece Suzi Burns and nephew Randy Ried. Frank's family would like to thank Dr. J. DelPaggio and Dr. K. Ward as well as all staff at the cancer clinic for all the caring support they provided. A visitation for Frank's memory will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 81 Ravenwood Ave. Thunder Bay, from 1-5pm. In lieu of flower, donations to a Charity of Your Choice.
