FRANK HUDEC Obituary

FRANK JOSEPH HUDEC 1961 - 2025
Those close to him are sad to announce the death of Sergeant (retired) Frank Hudec, 63, on February 4, 2025, in his home in Gatineau, Quebec. Born October 27, 1961 in Fort William, Ontario, Frank attended St. Jude's Elementary School and Selkirk High School before attending Lakehead University, majoring in Geography. He spent more than 20 years in the Canadian Forces, first serving as an infantryman with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment, then in the regular force with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, with four years in Germany. Frank spent the rest of his military career in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a photo technician/photographer, which included a cherished posting with Combat Camera that took him to Afghanistan several times, as well as other countries documenting the Canadian Armed Forces' work. Upon retirement, he deployed to the backyard and commanded a platoon of squirrels, chipmunks and various birds he trained (or vice versa) to come to the patio door for food. Frank discovered a green thumb, growing vegetables and flowers, including giant sunflowers that peeked into his home's second-floor windows. Frank is predeceased by his father Joseph and his mother Cecilia (nee Strapecova). He is mourned by his former wives Sarah Brown and Jody Hudec, and by his best friend since Grade 1, Tony Prudori, as well as lifelong friends and former colleagues in Thunder Bay, and family in Chelbnice, Slovakia, including the extended Strapec and Hudec families, as well as family in the Czech Republic. Frank was, quite simply, a meticulous soldier and a brilliant photographer, winning awards for his work with the Canadian Forces. He was always known to set the standard, a high one that he himself would meet and exceed as an example. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Frank will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 615 Connolly Street, March 14, 2025, 10:30am. The service will also be webcast online. Details will be available at http://milnews.ca. Immediately after the service, those missing Frank are welcome to Shooters Tavern, 377 Memorial Avenue, to have a beverage and share fellowship in his memory. Disposition of the ashes will occur at a later date.

My Condolences to Frank's family and friends. Frank was my photography mentor during his time at 8 Wing Trenton. He was an excellent supervisor and a talented image maker. His images of the New York skyline, haunted houses, sparks, night shots, different styles of people shots were all amazing. He was a real pleasure to cross paths with him for the 2 years we worked together. Rest in peace Frank!

I was a sad new to hear. My sincere Condolence to the family and friends. Our Prays is with you all.
Frank was an artist combat photographer, was creating very powerful images.
I knew Frank from the beginning of his career, Frank was not a big talker, I always like to asked his opinion, they were logic different and refreshing. His army background was not missed, a big asset for deployment and hi loved these deployment and was a great leader at it. Frank was super calm at any situation that reflected to is peers and reassured them, that was a great quality for a military and Frank was always a head of the situation with great suggestion for all situation tactical. Frank you will be missed. R.I.P my friend.
