FREDERICK LEE Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frederick James Lee announce his passing on October 19, 2024 in Thunder Bay at the age of 79.

Fred was born the middle child to Dorothy and Frederick Lee, on May 2, 1945 in Fort William and was nicknamed Sonny. He met Joyce Hrabok and married in 1965. Together they welcomed Shirley-Ann, Robert, and James and made their home in Westfort.

Fred worked in the glazing industry for 37 years as a manager for Pilkington Glass, Ford, and AFGD.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper, spending many summers at Dog Lake with family. In later years, they camped at Whitefish Resort. He enjoyed wood working in his garage, building picnic tables, tête-à-têtes, and lawn furniture for friends and family. Many celebrations and parties happened in "Grumpy's Garage" over the years; good times were enjoyed by all! A few of Fred's favourite hangouts were The Wayland, Tackney's Tavern, and the Westfort Prosvita where he met friends and debated life over beers.

Fred is lovingly remembered by his sons Robert and James, sister Sharon McLeod (Charles), brother Wayne (Marie), nephews Charles, Andrew, Nick, niece Tara, and their families, and numerous nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce, parents Fred and Dorothy, and daughter Shirley-Ann.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Fred's life for family and friends will be held at The Westfort on Brown Street on Saturday, November 2nd from 2 to 4pm following a private service and interment.

Robert and James would like to express their sincere thanks to family, friends and neighbours (at home and camp), and all the staff on the 5th Floor of Southbridge Lakehead for all their help, care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or charity of choice would be appreciated.

Joyce was my best friend all through school. I was living in BC when she passed and was devastated. I spent a lot of time at Joyce and Fred´s apartment when Shirley was born and later when they bought their house in Westfort. Fred liked to tease me and give me a hard time. They both loved going to camp. I´m so sorry to hear of his passing and absolutely stunned to learn of Shirley Anne´s passing as well. Sincerest condolences to Robert and James.

So sorry Robert and James and all the family to hear about your Dad's passing. What a gentleman, I met Fred at the Wayland as I was going there weekly to see Tommy Horricks and sing a bit of Karaoke. Then I would visit with him at the meat draw at the Prosvita...we had many memorable chats, laughter and such. He invited me over for supper one evening and cooked...a delicious Bbq steak with all the trimmings. He was so kind and wouldn't let me lift a finger. Between my poor health and his we didn't see a lot of each other, but I will always have a soft spot for him in my heart. Prayers for you and your family as they grieve his loss. Sincerely Sandy Oram.
