It is with extreme sadness that our beloved Garry Glen MacKinnon, 70 years old, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at TBRHSC.
Garry was born in Timmins, lived in Balmertown, ON for most of his childhood until his mother suddenly passed away when he was a young child. Numerous special friends including Toots and George Thorpe helped raise Garry. He had several life challenges.
In 1999, he suffered a stroke and was reunited with his brothers and family. He moved to Thunder Bay BISNO, in 2003 (to live near his brother Ron and family). Garry lived there for several years then went to HAGI Andras Court. Most recently lived at Hagi Castlegreen.
He battled Colon Cancer and survived major surgery 2 years ago. However it returned very aggressively despite treatments and extensive efforts, the Lord called Gary home.
Garry is survived by his brother Ron, and sisters-in-law Valerie and Debi, nieces Kim DeRoos (Darren), Kelly and Kerri, nephew Ronald Jr. (Sharla), great nephews Colin, Colton DeRoos, Jake, Cisco and Diego Raposo, great nieces Lillie Bodnar (Colton), Sydney, Emma and Ciara Raposo. Also special friends Kim and Carlee, and Coffee Club Members.
He was predeceased by his mother Lucille (Henry), father Cameron Charles, brother Donald and nephew Cameron.
Sincere thanks to the management, staff at BISNO (Residence and Community), HAGI Andras Court and Castlegreen, and 3B Surgery TBRHSC, for excellent and compassionate care.
We know Garry's contagious happiness and smile, special saying's "That's a Good One", ketchup chips, Tim Horton's coffee, love for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, and the unique way of appreciating the simple things in life will remain forever in our hearts, in loving memory of Garry.
Please join us in Celebration of Garry's Life on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Castlegreen Community Centre.
