2023
June 14, 1955 Garth was born. The 4th and final son to Kathleen & Norman Gordon, of Merrill St. in Current River. On January 28, 2023, after a couple of years of some health issues, Garth passed away in the comfort of his home at the other end of Merrill St.
If you are wondering if you've ever met Garth, you couldn't have. Otherwise, you wouldn't have to ask.
A dedicated member of Local 793, Garth worked for the pipeline companies bringing him to job sites all across the country. After he retired, he'd be found on the phone for hours, talking to people about…pipes and pipelines. His work with the hoe was described as an artform, by him, of course, but no one has heard otherwise. He took his work seriously and was always pleased with his efforts, but he was never more proud than when Travis got hired by Banister and also joined the local 793.
Garth's face lit up when he shared the news of the first time he became a Papa. Hunter and his two sisters lived 4 provinces away, but he got to know them the best that he could through the many photos, the fridge
was totally covered, video chats and anecdotes that Elisa would share.
Watching Beau play hockey was an event Garth would rarely miss. He was determined to learn how to “shoot movies” on his iPad so he could chronicle Beau learning to skate.
Summers post pipeline, you could always find Garth outside. He took seriously lawn care, competing with his friends in garden competitions, and feeding the birds. He even built the world's 1st squirrel-proof bird feeding system. He also had a relationship with TV like no other. News, crime and sports could be seen on his 3 TVs constantly. However, anyone that knew him would know not to bug him at 4:00, his daily Judge Judy fix.
Always an ice cream treat of some kind for two generations of neighbourhood kids: underneath his gruffness, there lay a sensitive side. This is the side many will miss, though some will miss a bit of the gruffness as well.
Garth leaves behind daughter Elisa (Rodney) Schatz and her children, Hunter, Gemma and Brynlee, Masset, BC, son Travis and his son Beau Brody Gordon, Calgary, AB, and brother Ainsley (Brenda), Thunder Bay.
He'll be missed by Kenny, Butch, Bruce, Pam, George, Tanja, Sinder the cat, countless other friends, pipeline pals, and the many nieces and nephews across the country.
Predeceased by his parents, brothers Ken and Allen, niece Tammy, his buddy Brian, and his good friends and neighbours, Jack & Betty.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. A notice will be published when details are confirmed.

To family and friends.
My sympathy for your loss. My brothers Duncan and Brian Smith spent time with Garth and Ainsley during the summer working in the tobbaco fields of Tillsonburg area when they were all teenagers. I am sure it was a lively experience and a fun time for all.
The write up of Garth reminds me of Duncan in many ways. Daphne
