Gary Steele Obituary

December 28th 1954 – September 21st 2018

It is with great shock and sadness that we share the news of Gary's sudden and untimely passing. He went very peacefully in his sleep, having spent his final days on the Harley. We are grateful to the many friends and family who have offered kind words and support.

Gary was born and raised in Orillia, Ontario. The eldest of four boys, he spent his early years on the water with his dad and brothers, and on the road with whoever had the fast car. Work took him to Ottawa where he ran a crusher for a few years before buying his first truck and heading north. He spent the last 35 years in Thunder Bay building his business, buying up toys (not playing enough), and sharing a beer with friends and family in the Shop.

Gary leaves behind his beloved partner Bobbie, mother Nancy, and daughter Shawna (mother Dianne). He was predeceased by his father Ray and will be greatly missed by brothers Ken (Teresa), Tom (Astrid) & Jim (Wendy), as well as his many nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve are Jim Quinn & family, his friends from Las Olas, and a great, great many friends in Thunder Bay and across Ontario.

A memorial service for Gary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Harbourview Funeral Centre. A casual, drop-in “come as you are” reception will follow at the Shop, from 3pm, where friends are invited to share stories and celebrate a life well lived.

Friends are also invited to join his mother Nancy and the Steele family for a drop-in celebration of life 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Orillia, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to raise a glass or two (Gary would recommend a Caesar and a beer) in his honour. Donations may be made to Easter Seals at www.easterseals.org or Heart & Stroke at www.heartandstroke.ca

Was shocked when I heard the terrible news. Just a couple of weeks before you passed you and Bobbi stopped by my camp. It brought back how much you did for me back in 94. You gave me a job that helped me get back on track. You will be missed. Thanks for everything Gary

Dear Bobbie, Shawna, Nancy, Kenny, Tom, Jim, Steele Family and Friends.
Friday September 21st, 2018 was a very sad day in the Quinn household Your hearts must be broken, we know ours are!
Gary was like a Son and a Brother to our Family for close to 47 years.
Gary had so many accomplishments in his short time with us all and He experienced life to its fullest there is something to be said of a Man whom at 64 years old literally never left one stone unturned. We are so proud to have been a part of Gary's accomplishments and his life experiences.
Sadly, Jim will no longer be able to spend several hours on the phone with his Best Buddy Gary catching up on Construction news, Family matters and life in general, however he certainly has many years of special memories of their time together, and no one can ever take those memories away.
Saying goodbye to someone we love is heartbreaking. May you find comfort in all your special memories shared with Gary, we know we will!
May you rest in peace our Dear Friend, Son and Brother - until we meet again.
Love
Jim & Bea, Jim & Debbie, Carol-Ann & Todd (Wallace), Bill & Tammy, Jenn & Jamie, Paige & Ainsley Quinn

A wonderful, straight shooting, honest, loving, caring, guy. The best neighbour and friend you could ever want. Always there in times of need, whether it be faulty well, caved in driveway, or a car that won't start. Gary will always be missed by neighbors of 31 years, the Raison Family.
