GARY WALTHO
Gary Waltho was born on September 23, 1943, in Montreal, Quebec, and passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at Hogarth Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay, where he was lovingly monitored and cared for by the dedicated staff in Spruce.
Gary lived a life defined by service, leadership, and a deep love for the outdoors. Early in his career, he proudly served as a constable with the Ontario Provincial Police. He later dedicated many years to education, becoming a beloved teacher and principal at Armstrong Public School. Gary retired from teaching in 2004, leaving behind a lasting impact on countless students, colleagues, and the community he served.
Gary fulfilled a lifelong dream by owning and operating Bear Paw Lodge. From 1994 to 2010, the lodge became a place where his passion for fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors truly flourished. As a devoted fishing enthusiast, Gary found great joy sharing his knowledge, stories, and love of nature with guests, friends, and family.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Dorthy and Ernest Waltho. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Patricia; his sister Joyce (Dale); his daughter Jodie (Dean); and his son Jonathan. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren Adriana (Wesley, Lucille), Ashley (Caleb), and Andrea (Tyler), who were a constant source of pride and joy in his life.
Gary will be remembered for his dedication to public service, his commitment to education, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his warm presence that touched so many lives. His legacy lives on in the communities he served, the lessons he taught, and the memories shared by all who knew and loved him.
