February 25, 1972 ~ June 24, 2025
Born a twin on a winter's day in Geraldton, Ontario, George Joseph Gilbeau affectionately known as GEO, entered this world on February 25, 1972, alongside his beloved sister Georgette. He passed peacefully at Thunder Bay Health Regional Centre on June 24, 2025, surrounded in spirit by those who loved him most.
George leaves behind his cherished children, Jadzia Gilbeau and Ezri Gilbeau, and the light of his later years, his granddaughter Avery. His faithful companion, Pepper his beloved dog, as well as his long time friend mother of his girls Tammy Ogima rarely left his side, a symbol of the quiet loyalty and gentleness that defined his spirit.
George was a man of many gifts - quiet, humble, yet filled with wisdom. A true wizard when it came to computers, his skill at fixing things extended far beyond hardware. He had a way of restoring calm, of mending what was broken in others, simply by being present. He found solace and joy in the natural world: hiking Mount McKay, cycling forest trails, skiing under winter skies, and sipping his treasured morning coffee with a sense of ritual and peace.
A man of faith, George held his Bible close and walked a path that honoured both his Christian beliefs and the traditional ways of his Anishinaabe culture. His heart held space for both, the sacred and the earthly which he wove together in the way he lived, respected, and loved.
He treasured his family deeply. Though his path now leads him beyond this world, he remains ever close in memory and spirit to the many family members and friends who survive him and carry his light forward.
In every quiet moment, every sunrise over the mountain he climbed, every shared laugh and warm cup of coffee, George's memory endures a reminder that even the gentlest among us leave the deepest impressions.
Funeral services for Geo will be held at Sargent and Sons Funeral Home on July 3, 2025 starting at 10:00 a.m. with the viewing and 11:00 a.m. for the service. Burial will take place at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.
