George Soulias Obituary
After a lengthy illness George passed on quietly with his two beloved daughters by his side. He died with the satisfaction knowing that he fought and held off cancer, heart and kidney disease for many years.Yorgo was born on December 1, 1926 in Koupaki Greece. Life often was a struggle. At an early age his father died leaving his mother alone to raise four children during the difficult 1930's. Yorgo was called into armed service during the Civil War in Greece and remained on active duty until serving one term in Korea. In 1957 Yorgo married Vasiliki (Koula) Tsontsolou and together they enjoyed 27 years together. In 1966 George followed his brother to Canada to start a new life. His young family followed one year later. Like many of his fellow Greek immigrants he found work in restaurants. This work became his career, one that he took great pride in. He was especially proud of his time at the 'Holiday Inn' and at 'Tiffany's'. George often stated that although he started life later in Canada he was proud that through hard work, he and his wife had captured the 'Canadian Dream'. Unexpectantly, his wife Vasiliki passed away in 1984. George retired in 1988 to a peaceful life of being a 'Butler' for his grandchildren, daughter and son in law in Canada or visiting his other daughter's family in his native homeland. George's life was devoted to his family. He was very proud of their accomplishments and supported them through out their lives. George is survived by his two Daughters: Chrysoula- Theresa (Robert) Mayer, Evangelia -Lisa (Miltos) Sotiropoulos; Grandchildren: Kristyna and Katherine Mayer; Vassia and Costa Sotiropoulos ; Sister: Danai (Costa) Pantoulias, daughter Dimitra (Chrisanthos) Angelakopoulos and son Yanni in Greece: Sister in Law Nikki Pantoulias and children Maria (Edward) Smelt, Lisa (Patrick) Boote, Theodore (Tara) Pantoulias ; Nephews: Tom (Vasiliki) Soulias, Tax (Jackie) Soulias and Nick (Maria) Soulias; George was predeceased by his wife Vasiliki, his brother Art and his sister Vasiliki Angelopoulos.George remained to the end a very proud, dignified and honourable man. He had a sharp sense of humour and could often find fun in any situation. To the end his family was his only focus.Funeral Services for George Soulias will be held on Tuesday, July 26th, 2005 leaving Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:00 a.m. for the Service in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 10:30 a.m. presided by Rev.
