George Sproule Obituary

Mr. George Howard Sproule died on July 7 in TBRHS surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Port Arthur in 1944 to Violet and William Sproule. He attended Hillcrest High School and studied graphic art/design at Sheraton College. He married the love of his life, Edith (Foster) in 1967. George was a talented artist, designer and cartoonist. He worked in graphic design for printing and advertising. Edith and George had a good life in Burlington Ontario raising their two sons Colin and Neil but came "home" to Thunder Bay every summer to fish, camp and visit relatives and friends. The family moved back to TB in 2002. Since early in his teenage years George dealt with the personal challenges of aggressive Ankylosing Spodilitis Arthritis having numerous surgeries, almost constant pain and, what others would consider insurmountable disability. But over and over and over again he rose to the next challenge with quiet resolve, determination and an indomitable spirit. He never complained. He was a quiet inspiration to us all. Even to the end George would enthusiastically say "yes" to any opportunity for adventure. He especially loved any opportunity for a fishing trip with his sons Neil and Colin even when it meant he was tossed in a wheelbarrow for the trip from the cabin to the boat. His most recent joys were his delightful granddaughters Avery and Chloe who never failed to bring a smile to his face. George is survived by his wife and best friend, Edith, his sons Colin and Neil (Kathryn Goth), grandchildren Avery and Chloe and brother Bill (Valerie) Sproule. As well: sister-in-laws, Denise (Allen) Noel, Elaine (Brian) Foster-Seargeant , brother-in-law Edwin Foster and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 Court St. N., on Saturday, July 10 at 2:00 pm., with Rev. Jim Hyder officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Foundation - Respiratory Rehabilitation Program or the Arthritis Society would be greatly appreciated.
