GERALD MOSA Obituary

Gerald Mosa passed away on April 9, 2024, in Thunder Bay, Ontario at the age of 76.

He was known for his inquisitive and eccentric personality, constantly eager to share his sense of humor, infectious smile, wealth of knowledge, and stories with those around him. He grew up on Northern Ave, attending Drew Street School, FWCI, and then went on to Lakeview University where he studied music, the arts and obtained a teaching degree.

Gerald taught both in the Catholic and Public School Board. He was a passionate, compassionate and dedicated teacher, going above and beyond to create amazing learning environments and opportunities for his students throughout his 30 year career.

Gerald was a multi-talented man with a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He loved farm life, gardening, and had a deep passion for horses from a young age. This love for horses led him to compete in various disciplines, become a coach, breed horses, and share his passion with others. Additionally, he was very musically talented, performing publicly, teaching music and infusing it into every gathering with family and friends. He adored all animals and found joy in outdoor pursuits such as camping and canoeing. He took great pleasure in introducing his family and students to these activities. Gerald remained connected to his Ukrainian heritage by participating in dancing, cooking traditional dishes, crafting beautiful eggs (pysanky), and even traveling to Ukraine to teach English.

Gerald Mosa is survived by his devoted friend Raymond, daughter Kaila (Thad), Kaila's mom Wendy, his brother Danny (Hildred), their extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dan, his mother, Rose, and his son, Jordan.

Cremation has taken place, and the ashes will be interred at Mountainview Cemetery at a later date.

A celebration of Gerald's life will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Vickers Heights Community Centre 1695 Broadway Avenue, Thunder Bay, Ontario. The celebration will commence at 1:00 pm followed by time to gather, visit, and enjoy light refreshments. If you would like to contribute in any way to the celebration of life-photos, stories, memories, or your services (playing an instrument, singing, refreshments), please email [email protected].

If desired, contributions to charities close to his heart are appreciated. Options include children's education, performing arts, cancer care, amputee organizations, horseback riding programs and outdoor programs for kids.

Sad to learn of Gerald´s passing. I met him in 18 years ago. When I first time traveling in Canada. I met him in a waterfront hotel, he was on his way to buy something for horse use at that time.he asked me to share the room with him. He showed me the positive way to live, the next day he drove me to Toronto help me did some preparation works for my Toronto marathon. He told me the fuel used for truck is called "diesel ".He was the first Canadian friend I had. After short time stay with him, we still remained contact through email. Many years passed, this month I visit Canada to attend my daughter´s wedding in Montreal. Before leaving I thought I´d like to visit him since too many times passed. When I search him I got this sad news.Rip my dear friend Mosa! I miss you!

Gerald was a core member of Equality Rocks when I had the honour of taking over as music director.

Gerald helped me complete one of my life´s bigger quests.

We drove to South Ontario together and I brought my touring bike. I would later attempt to ride this bike back to Thunder Bay, and would complete this quest many years later.

Gerald was a great leader, musician, teacher, and genuine friend.

Sincere condolences to Gerard's family and loved ones. Mr. Mosa was my Grade 4 & 5 teacher at St. Margaret School and beloved by all of his students. He was such a creative teacher who taught us singing, recorders, musical theatre, Ukrainian Easter egg design, line dancing, gymnastics, cooking, orienteering and rock climbing, to name a few. His zest for life and love of teaching/learning inspired me to become a teacher. He was such a generous, kind and engaging human being. So grateful that our paths crossed - he was truly a gift to us all. RIP Mr. Mosa, Christina Visy

"My deepest condolences to the family. Gerald's support and friendship will always be remembered. I particularly enjoyed the moments when he would break into song, especially at Evelyne and Ron's house when we all lived in Nolau. Those were truly special times filled with good food, hearty laughter, and pleasant melodies in a beautiful off-grid home with wonderful off-grid people."

Gerald "Mr Mosa" was my teacher in grades 4&5, one whom I remember fondly. He was my favourite. His teaching style was beyond creative. It was in his class where I learned to play chess on the floor tiles, developed a strong, lifelong appreciation of music, and learned to speak Foo. He took our entire grade 4/5 class camping where we cooked over open fires, slept in tents and learned to paddle a canoe on big, open water. My memories of him and those years are clear and happy and I am forever grateful to have been his student. I have attached a couple pics from June 1976 of the camping trip. I was 10. Thank you Gerald for being you. For sharing your love of the arts, music, and outdoors with us. I will always cherish those childhood years. He was a gift to many and will be missed.

Wendy
It has been many years since I last saw Gerald at a time when we all lived in Nolalu, but I remember him as a kind and considerate man whose company I enjoyed these many years ago.
A knee replacement will prevent me from attending his celebration of life but he will be in my thoughts. He will continue to live in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
May your journey to the Spirit World, Gerald, be unencumbered and may peace be granted to you and to all you encounter there.

Wendy, Kaila/Thad -
Thinking of you at this difficult time as we reminisce on yesteryears when our families gathered together - stories to tell, music to enjoy, activities on the go, adventures to share, much to learn.
We remember Gerald singing `Perhaps Love´ at our wedding 41 years ago. A song of his choosing - its beautiful lyrics.

We love you. Take good care of yourself and each other.

Very sad to hear of Geralds passing. I supported Gerald during his stay on the 5th floor at St. Joes. His optimism, cheery smile, and easy-going attitude always brought joy to my day. We would often play Trivia (he would always win of course), various board games, and sing along to Christmas Carols over the holidays. Gerald often talked proudly of his Ukrainian heritage, sharing photos and stories of his past travels which I always felt lucky to listen to. Gerald also introduced me to the brain game "Stinky Pinky" which we had fun playing. Sending my condolences to his friends and family - rest easy Gerald!

My sincerest condolences to Geralds family
I worked with Gerald, volunteered in his classroom and he taught two of my children at Whitefish Valley. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching dance, drama, art, egg painting and many other extras not only to his class but all the other students. Gerald would be very excited when we began to plan Art Days in the mid nineties, he loved to see all the talented volunteers from arou nd the community teaching the students a new skill. We lost touch after his retirement but I thought of him often.
May he rest in peace
