GIACOMO PIZZI Obituary
It is with great sadness and peace that we announce the passing of our beloved Mr. Giacomo Addlorato Pizzi, age 87 years, a resident of Thunder Bay who passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Giacomo was born on August 19, 1938 in Isernia, Italy. He worked there for a brief period of time doing construction work. He decided to leave his home to make a better life like so many other Italians did. He ended up in Ignace, Ontario where he worked on the railway operating all types of equipment. He was a hard working man who gave his job 100% everyday. He received many safety awards when he was in charge of his group making sure no one was hurt. Later on he left Ignace and came to Thunder Bay where he continued working at the CPR. When out of town work was available, he left to continue laying new track from Thunder Bay to Igance, and further. He retired after 35 years of service. Walking to work was such a convenience for him as he lived his entire life in the city's East End. Many will remember him as the older gentleman riding his bike in the area multiple times a day, with a baseball bat strapped to his bike "just incase", going just fast enough to not fall over.
Giacomo was a man of great health. To see such a strong man in his late 60's doing one arm chin ups was incredible. He rode his bike daily, even in his 80s. He loved to play tricks with his teenage grandkids at the time where they would jump on his back and wrestle him.
Giacomo is survived by his wife Cristina Pizzi of 69 years, his son Micheal Pizzi, his granddaughter Britni (Philip) Parnell, and his grandson Nik Pizzi. His most emotional time was when he saw his "number 1 grandson" (great grandson) Colton Parnell. He would cry and smile every time he came over. He was predeceased in death by his son John Pizzi (1988) and his daughter-in-law Michelle Pizzi (2024).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 when family and friends will gather in St. Peter's Church in the East End for a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the church. Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to St. Peter's Church Building Fund.
We would like to thank the staff at The Walford, St. Joseph's Hospital 3 South, and Southbridge Lakehead Manor for their incredible care and compassion to Giacomo.
Now is the time Giacomo has been waiting for. He is now at peace living with God.
